Having been away on holiday for a while the reporting of the team’s progress has been absent. I can address that by updating you in this segment, so here goes:
The Mixed Doubles 1st Team has had some, well, mixed results (no pun intended – but it’s nice isn’t it!). Having been in a challenging position in the Division 4 of the H&DTL sad to say that the results have not always been favourable. On 25/07/2019 they played Ripon ‘B’ and came away with a win by 59 to 49 games but on 31/07/2019 against a rejuvenated team from Dacre they lost by 52 to 56 games; and most recently they lost away to the Ripon ‘A’ by 60 to 48 games. They have one match left, next Wednesday (14th) at Claro Park against the team at the top of the table! Let’s hope for a win in their final match to confound the bookies odds!
The Mixed Doubles 2nd Team have concentrated in this, their first season in the league, on ensuring that everyone who wanted to experience competitive tennis has been able to do so. The results have therefore been of secondary importance with enjoyment and experience being the order of the day. Having said that the team has notched up a few wins through the season but most recently in what was effectively a double header against Almscliffe ‘A’ lost on both occasions, at home by the properly annoying margin of 2 games (53 – 55) and away at Huby by 60 – 48. Most recently i.e. yesterday (8th) they lost to Thirsk ‘C’ by 71 to 37 games. No doubt that next season they will improve and blood many more players into competitive tennis.
