Mixed Doubles – Mixed Results

The HSTC ‘A’ team were in catch up mode this week. They played two fixtures over 3 days and got mixed results.

On Friday away at Harlow versus their ‘B’ team Mark Upton led the team to a victory. On a humid and sometimes rainy evening, Spa A managed an away win against the league leaders! In a very closely contested match that went to the wire, Spa managed to take the match by 57 to 51. All 3 pairs made important contributions – Margaret and Jamie playing throughout the second rain shower in round one to win 8 – 4, Ian and Sarah just got edged out in the second round by 7 to 5 against probably their strongest pair, and Mark and Roseanne (who made a stunning A team debut) managed an 11-1 win to help the score along in round 3. More importantly we had a good supper afterwards and Roseanne managed to go home without finding out the result of the Federer/Nadal match so she could watch her recording from where she left off. Oh Happy Days!

Then on Sunday evening (14th) when Federer and Djokovic were battling it out at Wimbledon the ‘A’ team took on Wetherby ‘B’ at Castlegarth. This time and with the match being held on a lovely sunny evening the ‘A’ team lost by 69 to 39; both teams are pictured below before the match. It should be added that solace was taken in the pub afterwards.
